The one when the film is better!

Hiya my loves...

This blog is a little different to others, its neither beauty nor lifestyle focused but indeed is something that is very much a controversial topic of conversation.
For as long as I can remember I have always considered books to be way better than their film adaptations and had yet to be corrected. What I always preferred was that I could read a book and imagine that character how I wanted them to be not what the casting director wanted them to look like. On some occasions they got it very right but in others completely wrong... I'm still hating the casting of the entire Twilight trilogy. But nonetheless the books are always more immersive and exciting to me, the thought of holding a copy of a good book gets me very excited!
On a completely unrelated note... thoughts on fifty shades if you've seen it? I was disappointed, and not because I think the book has literary credential, but behind all the kinky sex theres a pretty decent story line going on there! And, not to mention, whose not in love with Christian Grey? As for the film, I had low expectations (I was pretty much there for Jamie Dornan) but they jiggled too much of the chronology and that bugged me a little. But anyway... onwards...
I had read Cecelia Ahern's originally titled 'Where Rainbows End' or you may of seen it as 'Love Rosie'. I love Ahern as a writer, I own a lot of her books and PS I Love You will forever be a favourite! Very briefly, its about two childhood friends whose lives get very complicated and uncertain as they try to stay in touch... I hope I didn't give anything away! I didn't really rate the book. The book has a lot of twists and turns and the storyline is very complicated and you wouldn't expect half of it to happen when it does!  Its all in the format of emails and is a little difficult to get in to but I still managed to read it in three days! Then I found out that they had made a movie and finally got round to watching it today! First up, I loved the casting, it got better than Sam Claflin as Alex, but Tasmin Egerton as Sally was incredible and I loved seeing her in this film! They have very much simplified the story line to be a lot easier to follow and they skipped so much of the boring bits to make it less tedious! I would recommend the film this time and absolutely loved it, such a great story line too!
Let me know if there are any books/films that you have enjoyed one over the other, I would love to see what you guys think!
Love and hugs

PS, here is a pretty picture of Jamie Dornan just to keep you going

The one where I live in Ikea!

I cannot remember ever getting excited when going into Ikea. We went in often since we lived only an hour or so away from one and I have had Ikea furniture in my room for a long as I remember but trips there never excited me. However, since uni and especially since having my own flat, I LOVE it! I think there are Ikea’s all over the world but if your unsure what they are they are basically a MASSIVE store that sells flat pack furniture and all things home ware and décor. I’ve been twice in the last 3 months and have come out with arms full of goodies on both trips. The market place at the end is my idea of heaven seeing lots of pretty things to jazz up my new flat and I have so many things that have zero purpose! Like a jar that has one of those hook and catch lids? Sure you know the ones. If I had brought a few I could put pasta and rice and stuff in it but I have just the one. Not entirely sure what to do with it. sits on my dressing table a bit lonely so if anyone has any functions for it please leave them in the comments! I just seem to get a little bit excited by seeing all the sets together and just wanting that kitchen and lounge and bedroom and study to look just like they do in the store! It’s impossible however. One, you will never be able to put it together quite the same. Two, my student budget wont allow for me to do it and three, name me one kind architect who has designed a house will equal square rooms! Thus, the better and more suitable option is to just live in side it!

The one with the online dating

Good day to you all!

I would like to impart some wisdom on what is becoming a particularly popular online presence, that being the world of online dating. My room mate and I joined a website called POF, acronym for the website Plenty of Fish. First issue I had was right there, I kept wanting to call it FOP, to which a flop this whole experience has been. But nonetheless I signed up and completed the online compatibility and personality tests which brings me to issue two, it took an hour and a half to complete just these tests. Add this on to the extra 45 minutes to resize the photos and find a suitable and not at all pretentious username and you've taken 2 hours plus to create a profile. In this time, I could have gone to a bar in central London and met someone in the flesh. Not by judging someone wholly on a picture.

Issue three comes from the personal description part of this whole set depreciating process. Im not entirely sure if this is just me but I had the issue that I needed to write enough to not be considered a fake profile, but not as much to come across as a psycho who shares their life history online! Rewind to the part where empty personal descriptions make me wary. An empty one makes me extremely nervous. I feel like the person who has written it is not in fact a 22 year old trainee lawyer but a 50 year old sex slave ring leader. Call me Anxious Annie or Cautious Clare but i've seen too many CSI's to trust an empty personal description box.

Issue four: photos, both my own and others. My photo choices are not very varied. I'm not extremely photogenic and shy away from the camera pretty much always. So finding a photo of me that I like and is not one of me where I'm gurning in the background is extremely difficult. Especially since I'm morally outraged and against selfies. And then onto the topic of other people's photos, if you put up one photo that is a black and white head shot, then I will assume your a creepy 50 year old. Put up 5 selfies, and I will assume your a self-obsessed prick. And put up 5 photos of you out on nights out, topless with 7 girls, then I know your a self-obsessed slut.

Issue 5: The whole concept of online dating. That your basing your decision on a picture. I am guilty of this and is a reason I hate myself, and try not to but thats just something I have to accept is a reality. Even dating in real life, I hate judging someones personality based on what they look like... ugh hating myself for writing this but its the harsh truth! But during the online dating process, theres a part when this judging is intensified by a hundred. On POF there is a app and on this is a part called 'Meet Me' where a series of photos come up to which you respond with a Yes or No. I hate this with every inch of my being and the whole idea is so self depreciating! Won't continue with this rant as nothing more will be written through angst.

Issue 6: First dates. You literally have no idea who you are meeting up with. They could be anyone, you don't have any idea if they actually look like their picture and you could be kidnapped right there off the streets. Adding another name to my list here, Suspicious Sally. Also, the other end of this, is the fear that you are not what they got from your pictures or personal description and that there will be the awkward 'ahh nice to meet you stranger who has a capability to look completely different in person than on the photo'.

Issue 7 is the last but most infuriating point, that people just drop off the face of the earth! I was texting someone for about a week, promises of meeting up and had spent the whole week talking to each other. He managed to find and add me on Facebook and we had plans to meet. Then, out of nowhere, did not get a good morning text and never heard from him again. My stalker tendencies have kicked in and made me not delete him off Facebook but nonetheless frustrating!

So I hope you have enjoyed my imparting wisdom. And I depart telling you this, don't bother with the hassle of it all! Go out, meet a person not a CV and don't fret about the complications of it all!

Love and Hugs

The one with the christmas gift guide!

Hello you lovely people!

I thought I would write a little Christmas gift guide for you since Christmas is fast approaching and if your like me then you have very little gifts ready to wrap and put under the tree! I have compiled (ooo nice word commppilledd) a broad list of items ranging from £6 to £330 and also ranging in item type! I hop you enjoy and don't forget to subscribe and follow me on my other sites which are linked above!

The one with the Benefit goodies

Hello lovelies!

So... today's post brings something very different! It was my birthday a couple of weeks ago and part of my present from my mum was to go into Benefit have my make up and brows done (AMAZING brow service! highly recommended!) and then purchase the bits I liked afterwards! I brought a few bits and had a couple already at home so thought I'd take the time to review (well sort of) and show you guys the few products that I do have and what I think of them!
A little bit of a disclaimer - I am by no means a make-up expert! It has taken me 20 years to purchase my first blusher and highlighter! Nor do I think make-up is an essential! I only wear make-up foe special occasions and am a massive advocate of letting my skin breathe thus reducing horrible breakouts! I may do a facial routine another day but one beauty blog at a time! As I said, this is by no means a professional opinion! I NEVER wear make up and have taught myself everything I know about it! So, if your looking for a review that is in layman's terms with no complicated description words then this ones for you! Also, benefit is the most expensive beauty item I own! apart from a MAC foundation I have but these have only been in my limited (very small!) collection for a few months and have lived by brands such as Rimmel and Maybelline before I had the justification to spend a little more on make-up! So if you have anything that is similar to what I have then leave them below for others to see and buy!
My current collection minus Porefessional
My current collection minus Porefessional
This is all the Benefit makeup I own, minus the Porefessional since that went on a little adventure when I took this picture, and my Sugarbomb Lipgloss which had joined the Porefessional on a walk but has failed to return :(
My first impressions on the packaging will always be good! I love the branding and names of all their products and can put a smile on your face before you've even opened a lid! The Benefit Counter is also incredible to look at, especially at this time of year with all the candy canes and gingerbread houses!
Rockateur
Rockateur
This is the first blusher I have ever owned as they have scared me if I'm honest! I never knew what colour would look best or how to apply them, and the amount of girls who looked like they had a bad rash on their cheek was another put off! So the lovely lady at the counter colour matched me when I went in for my makeover and although in the palette it looks quite dark, they colour is lovely and rosy when it's on the skin! I have quite dark skin naturally so this is the perfect shade for me and I don't bronzer with it either! Also, the texture of it when it's on your skin is so soft and silky and gives a lovely finish (you'll see that in a picture down below)! Like all they're blushers, the packaging is great and comes in a compact with a mirror and brush which is great for first time blushers! I know these have been a bit of a beauty bloggers cult since Benefit released them starting with Dandelion but I love it and if your in doubt as to what colour you need, ask one of the lovely ladies at the counter and they'll be more than happy to match you! I put this just on the apples of my cheeks and sometimes, if i want a more 'done up' look along my temples too!
Watts Up
Watts Up

This is another product that has scared me for a long time! I'm sure we've all seen the Kim Kardashian pre blending photos of her contours and boy does it look terrifying! I have tried the highlighter Girl Meets Pearl before but found it so shiny and too iridescent (is that the right word? Lets go with too 'pearly'). This one, as you will see if the photo down below, the champagne colour of the product is so beautiful on the skin and catches the light so well and in a very subtle way! I love the fact that you can put it on and it look translucent but when you face catches the light it glimmers so very subtly! The applicator is okay but prefer to put the product straight on my fingers and blend it just below my eye socket along the side of my face and on my brow bone too! Again, if I'm going all out, I will put it along the bridge of my nose and the inner corners of my eyes!
That Gal brightening primer

That Gal product

I've been through a few primers since my skin doesn't like to hold a product for any longer than an hour, especially when your trekking through London on the tubes! I initially had a MAC primer, which I still use on occasion, but this one is beautiful mixed in with your foundation! It's a brightening primer so gives you a lovely glowing finish, even under my matte finish MAC foundation! As I said, I mix this in with my foundation on my hand before application then buff it into the skin with the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush! I love it so much as a finishing primer and would recommend it over my MAC primer. The finish it gives is a glow rather than a shine and makes you look so healthy and radiant!

As you can see the payoff of the face products is so lovely on the skin. I have built up the blusher so you can see the difference in colour on the skin and the pan. But you can build it up or leave it subtle depending on the look your going for. I think the Watts Up highlighter goes so well with it and the champagne colouring looks so nice on my skin tone. This picture shows the amazing glow the primer gives on the skin too and that has been applied straight to the skin.
They're Real Mascara
They're Real Mascara
They're Real mascara applicator

I think I may be well behind the craze with the Benefit They're Real mascara which has put pretty much every beauty blogger into a frenzy! I definitely think people have a love hate relationship with this product. My mum hated it and much prefers a fibre brush but I have loved it since I got it a year ago! It gives my lashed amazing length and if I'm looking for a fuller lash a use it as a second coat over an Avon mascara I also have. This is another reason I love this product, it doesn't clump if you build it or use it as a second coat. No one like the spider lashes clumped into 6 chunks on your eyelid! I would definitely recommend it but if your unsure pick up a mini version of it and try it out before you buy!
Erase Paste concealer
Erase Paste concealer
This is a must have for anyone with under eye circles that they want to cover up! I have quite deep set eyes and that can cause a dark circle under the eye which is a bugger to hide when your going out and trying to look a little more awake than what you are! I use this under my eyes after the primer but before my foundation just to give a base cover up before a highlighting concealer and keep my eyes looking bright. The coverage of this is incredible and is better than any other concealer I've used from a wide range of high street brands, its creamy and doesn't cake on as long as you blend it in, yeah, this is a product that will always be in my collection!
Benetint Lip and Cheek tint
Benetint Lip and Cheek tint
This is a mini product I have after I went to a Benefit event this summer and alongside the free bits I got in my goody bad (Porefessional and They're Real Mascara) I got this for just two pounds. I think this is the perfect size as you don't need a lot of it to get the colour! Despite being branded a lip and cheek tint I prefer it on my lips under a lip gloss to give a more long lasting and pigmented colour payoff! On the cheeks I don't feel like it blends in properly when you have the colour but lose the tint the more you blend, so have a strange relationship with this. I think it was worth the two pound I paid but wouldn't be rushing out to buy a full sized product any time soon since I think they're blushers are nicer and on the lips I love a good lip crayon from Rimmel.
They're Real Gel eyeliner
They're Real Gel eyeliner
They're Real applicator

This was another birthday goody I got after I brought a magazine, Cosmo i think, that had a mini version in it so I could try it. I was disastrous with liquid and gel eyeliner and had pretty much given up. The brushed liners that you get were too shaky and i could never get a smooth and straight line with them! I also found they were too wet and smudged if you blinked too hard so left them at the bottom of my bag never to be seen again! When I tried this product I was so impressed! The applicator is super easy to use, especially for beginners and the design is genius. It moves the lashes out the way as you glide it over the lid to create a line that is close to the lash line and smooth along the top. The product sets matte but is still a rich black rather than grey and patchy! For anyone trying to achieve the best cat eye, I would rush out to get this!
Porefessional
Porefessional
This is another mini that I have been praying never ends! This does exactly what it says and smooths out your pores ready for foundation. I only use this on my nose top of the cheek area (clinical name of that?) it sets the skin ready for a flawless foundation look and isn't oily or super thick! Massive thumbs up for this if you have particularly obvious pores that your uncomfortable with and want to hide.
So thats my entire Benefit collection, minus the lipgloss, which is super sad as it's brand new and still nowhere to be found. But i recommend those too! Especially since you match them to the blusher pots they have! If you have any dupes of any of these products do leave them in the comments for everyone to see! I know that Benefit is quite expensive so would be good to know any high street dupes for me and anyone else!
I am by no means saying that you need to cover up bits of yourself that you don't like, but I am a twenty year old who has to compete with girls on magazines looking flawless. Its a sad reality that this is the case, and as much as it's great to enforce the idea that girls don't need make up, it's something that is just there! It would be a perfect world where girls don't need make up to cover up bits they don't like, but unfortunately, we don't live in that world and fingers crossed that day will come! As i said, I don't wear make up everyday and only put it on to go out so that I'm not conscious about how I look or what people think about me. Whilst I encourage people to look beyond what they look like to be comfortable with themselves, i' only half way to being that comfortable with my appearance but am hoping the growing online presence of strong women that come in all shapes, sizes and looks will help me and all other girls be as comfortable with our appearance!
Love and Hugs,
A xx
PS sorry about picture/light quality! These were taken on my iPhone so had to utilise the dwindling British sun to get enough light!
PPS I am no longer going to commit to a certain blogging time frame! I don't want to post because I have to but because I want to and have something worth writing about! So blogs will be varied in topic and posting date !

The one where I start again!

Good day all you lovely people!

I have decided to re-publish my blog on a different site as I thought I may get some more views that where I was due to there being more users!
If you have followed me from there, then welcome to my new home!
To those who have found me since being here, then welcome too, but here's a little intro into who I am and what I aim to do with this blog!
So, why start a blog? Well, despite the fact that this seems like I'm jumping on the bandwagon as the online community becomes a ever growing presence, I had a burst of creativity. Don't get me wrong, I have always had a creative streak but as my 20th birthday was fast approaching, it dawned on me that I had done little with the creativity that I had harboured, so wanted to share my life in the form of writing!
What will I be blogging? Everything. Honestly. When I say I'm an ordinary girl, I really mean it. I have never really found my talent and am losing hope of doing so, so figured a new challenge could be my calling. I have no particular passion in anything, so figured I could blog about what everyone thinks but never says! What’s more humorous than reading someone else’s darkest confessions and then realising you do exactly the same! And I know that everyone has the same problems but has a fear of talking about them. So let's get it out in the open and stop being embarrassed! I will scatter in the random review or beauty blog! And a sprinkle of tags and blogs! I have a very broad range of interests and didn't want to focus on one part of myself and neglect the others so thought I'd generalise my blog too!
Who am I? I’m 20, living in London while I study and that’s about all I am going to disclose right now. What I will add is that I’m not ashamed to tell you that I’m not the skinniest, prettiest funniest or most outgoing person you’ll ever meet. But I’m hoping that will be what draws all you lovely lot to my blog! My aim is to remain as anonymous as possible for as long as possible. I am terrified of judgement and for as long as this remains a personal project, I want to keep myself well hidden! That doesn't mean I won't be just as honest and disclosing as other bloggers/vloggers but will me my name and face will remain off this site and twitter ect ect! I seriously admire other people who can deal with the ups and down of the internet but I enjoy remaining detached! For the time being anyway!

So that's me! I will try and transfer all my blog posts from the other site onto here for the next couple of days so I hope you enjoy!

Love and Hugs

A xx ... for anonymous - and a lot of other names too :)
